Ministry to children and young people is an essential and honoured part of the Church’s mission and activity, given to us by Jesus himself. Children also have a right to participate in the life of the Church. Happily, so many do so and experience there the life, meaning and joy of the Gospel. By working together to implement the standards and guidance as set out in the Document SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN, produced by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church (2008), especially at parish level, everyone can contribute to a Church in which every child feels valued and safe. In this way the whole Church community also gives its support to parents who have primary responsibility for ensuring the safety and well-being of their children.
